Capote Full character roster
Six bar regulars, one final boss. Pick the one that fits your style.
Capote’s six playable characters each have a distinct personality and a recommended playstyle. This page is the canonical reference for every character in the current build.
How characters differ
There are no gameplay stats attached to a character. Every Capote player has access to the same deck, the same special cards, and the same bidding options. What changes between characters is:
- Voice line library. Each character has 30+ unique taunts, call-outs, and reactions. Choosing a character is mostly about which voice lines you want to hear.
- Idle animation. A small cosmetic flavor that shows up between tricks.
- Hidden affinity stat. Playing a character repeatedly unlocks one cosmetic item and one extra voice line per character.
Characters do not affect win rate. They affect how much fun the table has.
The host
- Signature line: “First round’s on me.”
- Preferred mode: Classic Capote.
- Best for: new players.
- Voice vibe: cheerful, welcoming, mildly chaotic. Good for table warm-ups.
The host has no mechanical advantage but their voice lines are designed to keep the table friendly. Pick the host for your first ten matches to learn the round flow without being trolled.
The trash-talker
- Signature line: “You really bid that?”
- Preferred mode: Classic Capote and Truco.
- Best for: experienced players who like to bait opponents into overbidding.
- Voice vibe: confident, loud, occasionally unhinged.
The trash-talker has the deepest voice library in the game and is the most fun character to bring into a 5 or 6 player lobby. Combine with the Betting Strategy page to turn the table against opponents who let emotion drive their bids.
The observer
- Signature line: “Hmm. Interesting.”
- Preferred mode: Betejack.
- Best for: Betejack grinders and low-bid specialists.
- Voice vibe: calm, dry, perfectly timed.
The observer wins games by bidding low and staying silent. They are the most common character in the Bete strategy guide because their voice lines give nothing away.
The wildcard
- Signature line: “Trust me on this one.”
- Preferred mode: Betejack and Classic.
- Best for: players who like to chain special cards.
- Voice vibe: nervous energy, occasional self-doubt.
The wildcard is the only character whose voice lines change based on whether you played a special card on the previous trick. They are a fun pick for Special Cards Catalog enthusiasts.
The newcomer
- Signature line: “Wait, that’s a rule?”
- Preferred mode: Classic Capote.
- Best for: players who lose more than they win and want the table to give them a break.
- Voice vibe: confused, friendly, eventually confident.
The newcomer has a learner’s arc baked into their voice lines. They start naive and slowly grow into a competent player over multiple matches. The character is ideal for streamers or content creators who want to tell a story.
The regular
- Signature line: “Same table as always.”
- Preferred mode: All modes.
- Best for: returning players who want a stable voice profile across every session.
- Voice vibe: steady, slightly sarcastic, knows every bar story.
The regular is the most balanced voice library. They are the developer’s “default” character for tutorials and the easiest to listen to for long sessions.
How to unlock the cosmetics
Each character has one unique cosmetic. To unlock it:
- Pick the character from the lobby menu.
- Win or lose 25 matches with them selected.
- The cosmetic appears in your inventory.
There is no progression grind beyond the cosmetic. Capote is skill-based, not stat-based.
After 1.0: Lourdes and Truco faces
Early Access added extra neighbors, including Dona Lourdes. Truco is live in version 1.0, so those faces sit on 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3 teams as well as Classic tables. This wiki will not invent a second unnamed EA character. Follow the Updates Hub when Luski names someone new.
